All of my free time at the end of June was taken up by me preparing Rowan's party so I haven't blogged in a bit. Her first birthday party was yesterday and it was a success. All my planning came together and with some help from Matt, Gina and Shelby we got everything set up with minimal stress. I will post pictures in another post soon :) In the meantime, here is a catch up of the rest of this month.
Rowan's new favorite activity is pulling down all the pictures frames of family members and looking at them. Then I ask her, "Is this Aunt Shelby? Is this Aunt Leslie? and so on. She responds to each by nodding yes in agreement.
Tina bought both of the girls matching pink gellies for their beach vacation coming up. Here they were showing them off.

Making teething biscuits with momma. I HATE to cook but I really don't want to pass that on to Rowan, esp since she will most likely have to cook for her family one day. So I try to get her in the kitchen with me helping so she thinks cooking is awesome and fun. This was a great project for us to work on together because the dough didn't require eggs so I wasn't worried about her tasting along the way. Flour, rice cereal, water, carrots and cinnamon - five ingredients that made a yummy snack. I didn't have any cookie cutters so we used her shape sorter block instead, I'm teaching her how to be resourceful :) The only bummer of these are they went bad kinda fast. Next time we need to freeze some or store them in the fridge, not the counter.

We drove to Wichita last weekend to celebrate Sutton's third birthday, crazy. We went to cold stone, the pool, the park and had party time. The kids both loved the pool and we tried hard to capture a cute picture of the two of them. Sutton's party was wonderful and he was so fun with his cake and presents. He has such personality now and I love watching him play. Matt was entertaining the kids in the basement while we were setting up and this clip sums up their silliness.
We bought Ro this big ball for her birthday, since she loves balls, but it is totally lopsided. Really target?
Plenty of more pool time!
We are learning a lot more signs as her vocabulary seems to have exploded recently. Here is her version of please which seems to have replaced more all together.
Lynley came over again for another play date and we went to the big park. The girls climbed, went swinging and dug around in the sand. This makes me hopeful they will like the sand at the beach when we go to South Carolina next week!
I bought a new chalkboard for our kitchen to write verses or thoughts that are on our hearts for the week. I love it and the fun chalk ink I got to write on it.
Party Prep
We are testing limits around our house these days. Rowan will look straight at me as she is doing something she knows is wrong. This is a tricky stage because I am not sure cognitively she understands discipline yet and if she does, she doesn't seem to care. I need to start reading more about parenting a one year old and what I can hold her accountable for.
Checking the mail, another favorite pastime. She now knows the sign for the number 8 and will start signing it as we approach the mailbox.
Our tree yielded a big crop of cherries this year! So excited to pick and eat them.
Learning to drink from the hose without touching it with our hands and spraying it everywhere, drenching our clothes or drowning in a face full of water is a tricky thing to learn :)
