I was late taking her pictures this month because we had our cousins in town this week and then she was a teething, cranky, runny nose mess all weekend. We were still clingy and grumpy this morning but I couldn't put it off too much longer. Luckily we got some smiles but when we moved to the other chair she was over the 10 min of happy time allotted for one morning. One chair is better than none, I'll take it.
-She is eating 3 solid meals a day and nursing 4 times. Her schedule looks a little like this. Wake up usually in 6 o'clock hour and nurses. Eats oatmeal with a fruit cube mixed in and Cheerios in the 7 o'clock hour. Down for first nap 2- 2 1/2 hours after she gets up. Up again to nurse around 10:30-11:30. Eats lunch in 12 o'clock hour. Down for second nap 2 - 2 1/2 hours after she got up from last nap. Wakes up and nurses. Then eats dinner in 5 o'clock hour and nurses again at bedtime which is at 7. She has not been taking as much breastmilk now that she eats so much at meals. When I pump I get on average 5 oz total.
-While breastfeeding now she likes to assume one of these positions. Standing upright in my lap and bent at the waist nursing. Squirming from side to side, flipping each cheek to face my chest then back again. Or crawling over my legs. All are less than comfortable and I miss her wanting to just snuggle and be held. She also likes to pop off, look around to find the other side, jump on over there, pop off, go back to the first side and repeat. The other funny quirk about her nursing lately is she has found my bellybutton....and thinks it is a third place to drink milk from. If it distracts her, she will wiggle down towards it and try to suck. This frustrates her when nothing comes out and makes me laugh that she hasn't learned yet.
-She has mastered the sippy cup without as much spilling and much more success in getting water out of it. She frequently likes to say ahhh when she is done and takes a breath. I don't think it is on purpose but it makes me laugh.
-We are getting her to eat better thanks to a little creativity and some common sense. I had been feeding her very bland "baby foods" which apparently she thinks are gross. I would heat up mixed veggies and feed them to her plain (butter and salt probably aren't a good idea right?) or make some ground beef for tacos and try to give that to her plain. Then one night she was really reaching for my black bean soup I was eating. I was hesitant at first since it is made with red pepper, cumin, chili powder, garlic ect. but then I thought why not? I put a bean on her tray and she grabbed it up and popped it in her mouth. Turns out she loved it. She may have eaten a whole bowl of soup that night had I given her that much. So much to my surprise, she loves spices and flavorful things. Which shouldn't be so surprising I guess, that's what Matt and I eat. We wouldn't eat plain mixed veggies by choice either. I looked up some recipes and made some flavorful food this weekend for her and they have been going over well. I will blog about that later.
-Her nap routine has shortened a little. We now read some books to quiet down if we have been playing. Then listen to just the Hush-a-by Mountain song while we snuggle and walk around the room. Then I lay her down and leave. She used to like to snuggle being cradled but now she likes to nussle into my shoulder and be upright. She sleeps with her blankies and binky and sometimes likes to have her big bear in bed too. She has started recognizing the end of the song and knows it's time to lay down so during the last sentence she gets all squirmy and sometimes starts preemptively crying.
-She likes to play a game where she puts her binky in our mouths backwards then comes after it with her own mouth. It's like a binky kiss.
-When we read books with mirrors, she presses her face up to the page like she is looking at herself up real close.
-She loves to squat. She is in that postion a lot playing with her toys or transitioning between crawling and standing.
-Speaking of standing, she is now doing that independent of holding objects for balance. She also can squat down and rise back up to a stand. She has even taken a step or two passing from a chair to her walker without holding onto anything. I don't know if this is considered "walking" but she is staying upright and making the steps without holding on.
-She still prefers to use her walker and gets around quickly with it. We bring it along to grandma's, to the park or outside on the driveway so she can be mobile outside. She can redirect it now if it gets stuck.
-She is signing back to us finally! Her first sign was milk but she only does it as she is nursing not to tell us she wants to nurse. Her next sign was dog....really dog? Matt and I are not animal people so I find it ironic that she loves dogs and enough apparently to sign it. The third sign is more, which was first done in response to zucchini muffins she was eating for breakfast.
-She has learned about headbands and barrettes and now will pull them out of her hair if they catch her attention. Sad day
-She learned to clap this month too and if you say "clap clap clap" she gets really excited and claps along.
-She has one tooth, this picture above shows it off. She is super drooly and has felt warm off and on this past week. I wouldn't be surprised if she was working on another.
-If you say "up high" she will put both hands above her head and give you high fives
-She makes a noise with her mouth that sounds like blowing kisses. Sometimes she will do it on command.
-She loves to dance dance dance. If music gets turned on she smiles and starts bouncing away.
-She knows that the edge of the bed means danger and will crawl up to the edge and just start fussing. Then we help her scoot around and go feet first. She is all proud of herself when she hits the ground.
-She has learned to modify her crawl to accommodate a skirt or dress. It is on her hands and feet instead of hands and knees, pretty cute.
-Things she hates include : Getting her face washed after eating, putting on shoes, getting her hair rinsed during bath time, peas and getting buckled in the car seat.
-She is a very social baby. It doesn't take long for her to warm up to someone and she gets passed around without much fussing. When she is tired she wants me or Matt but if she is happy and playing she really is good. We haven't dealt with separation anxiety yet.
...and we're done :)
Love you sweet pea!
So excited for this summer and getting to spend lots of time with you two girlies!!
