Rowan's Birth Story Part 1: Pre labor

I started typing out our birth story Sat but didn't want to post it until I knew it was for real. Here is how the first 18hrs of her story began...

Well I asked for it. All this time worrying if she was going to make a move and now she has! I am in full swing pre-labor and it is giving me a taste of the pain that is to come. All this began today, Sat June 30th ( my guess for her delivery day btw) when I woke up around 8:30. I started having contractions that were painful, which was a first. They were coming maybe every 9-10 min apart. I also started spotting, another good sign! Matt and I decided to take it easy and rest for the day. He made us a good breakfast of eggs and toast to follow rule one of pre-labbor we had learned. Eat, Drink and Rest were now our goals. We caught up on TV shows we had missed on hulu and vegged until about 1:00. I drank so much freaking water that I was getting up to pee every hour. I decided very quickly that our couch sucks for laboring through contractions. I got on our birthing ball and hung out there most of the day. Up to this point I can see where some women say contractions are like painful menstrual cramps, either that or bad gas pains that hit you out of nowhere...you know the kind I'm talking about :) All this time I was having contractions sometimes more regular at 6 min intervals, other times more random intervals. Then I decided to lay down and try to nap for a bit. After I cat napped off and on through the contractions, they got so I couldn't ignore them laying down anymore. I got up and started helping Matt pick up the house and get some last min things done, like set up her pack-n-play in our room. We decided to go eat dinner at Jose Peppers as a little outing and treat. My contractions spaced out and were not as strong then. When we got home we watched, "We bought a Zoo." Then we went for a little walk around the neighborhood watching fireworks people were setting off. A storm started rolling in so we migrated to our covered porch in the backyard to watch the lightening show. We sat out there getting excited that she would be here soon and talking about how our lives would soon be changed forever. Matt started getting tired since it was around 11 by this point. We debated finishing packing our hospital bag but I really didn't think anything would happen tonight and that things would maybe pick up in the am. Since we were both tired, we skipped packing and headed to bed. I drifted off to sleep and was awoken by a strong contraction. This is where I thought they stopped feeling like cramps and started feeling different in their own way. I thought, well at least I got some good sleep in, only to look at the clock and see it was 11:45. I tried laying in bed but every time one came I would have to get onto all fours and breathe through it. I didn't want to wake Matt so I decided to move out into the living room and here I sit. My labor book says unless they are getting closer together, longer in duration and more intense you are still in pre-labor and your cervix is just softening not dilating. Sometimes for first time moms this can last for 24 hrs to 3-4 days. Yikes! We are going on hour 18 and I am growing weary of this already. I am really going to have to focus on the endurance side of labor right now and not get impatient. More later...
